Indonesia To Participate Into The Paralympic Games London 2012


Republic of Indonesia is taking part into the 2012 Paralympic Games held in London from 29 August to 9 September. Indonesia delegates 4 athletes who are going to compete in four different sports. They are Ni Nengah Widiasih (women's 40kg weightlifting), Setyo Budi Hartanto (men's athletics - long jump & high jump), Agus Ngaimin (men's (men's S6 swimming), and David Dian Michael Yakob (men's table tennis). All the athletes have qualified the Paralympic thresholds during their participation at the Asian ParaGames held in Guangzhou, China. 

There will be 4,200 athletets from 150 countries competing at the 2012 Paralympic Games, London, Great Britain. They will compete in 21 sports and 471 events, as follows:

This year is the 14th edition of the Summmer Paralympic Games since its inauguration Games in Rome 1960 (originally known as 9th Annual International Stoke Mandeville Games). Like the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games is held quadrennially and until the last occasion (Beijing 2008). London 2012 becomes the 9th city to host the Paralympic Games as well as the Olympic Games in the same year.

Republic of Indonesia made the Paralympic debut in 1976 when the Games was held in Toronto, Canada. Through the history Indonesia have collected 16 medals, consisting of 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 9 bronzes. The first gold medal was won in 1976 by Itria Dini (men's precision javelin), followed by Syarifuddin (men's singles of lawn bowls). The other two Indonesian gold medalists are Yan Soebiyanto (the similar event with Syafruddin's) and R. S. Arlen (men's weightlifting).
